Daddy Weekend...here we come.

Okay, so I'm (Leah) leaving my fam and heading to the coast for the weekend with a slew of other women from our church. I'm not too worried about my son, it's more the meltdown I anticipate from my daughter when she realizes that I am not in my bed on Saturday morning. I suppose some hot pancakes and a wee bit 'o syrup will cure that one soon enough. I'm riding over with 3 other pregnant women (I'm the farthest away due date- therefore should have the 'best' bladder for the ride...right?) and one not so pregnant mom (boy is she brave!). The drive should be only 2 1/2 hrs....any guesses as to the number of potty stops this van will take with 4 preggies inside? Yikes...I hope we get there before it's all over on Sunday.

:-) See ya soon.

Budding Artists

We have celebrated our creative side over the last few days. Here are some pics of the artisits in action.

I tried beads with them today. Maggie just kept looking at her bracelet all afternoon and saying "just like KariLynn!!" (Kari is Maggie's super beader of a cousin). They LOVED it and I was actually somewhat surprised that Sam was a much faster beader than Maggie was. Who knew?

Ahhh, the joys of the winter.

We have some 'rrhea in our house. So we are trying to avoid it by putting the boy with the 'my tummy hurts' syndrome on the toilet BEFORE the nasty deed happens. No luck on this try, but we haven't had another nasty diaper either...so whatever.

Well, sometimes when it's been too cold and too wet to head outside very much, my children put the large pillows on the couch and climb on them. This morning they did it without my knowledge and Maggie fell off. Her teeth hit the coffee table... and caused a LOT of blood....so far no loose teeth. Just a poofy lip and a small tear in that little webbing of skin that attaches your gums to your inner lip. Yuck. What a way to start the day. No picture of the blood. Sorry.

Sam picked a slightly safer 'game'. He used his clamps that Uncle Dan got him for Christmas and did this to the coffee table. Nice.

You asked for it.

Okay, Grandma. You wanted some new pics? Well, here's one. He did this just for you. (he is standing next to me right now, and making the face again. Silly boy.)

Yummy!

I made a great salad last night...and I thought I would pass the recipe along. Maggie ate all of hers (I know my kids are wierd) and Sam ate everything out but the leafy greens. It is from Cooking Light and is called Bread Salad with Cranberries, Spinach, and Chicken.

We strayed from the recipe (surprise, surprise) in the following ways: reduced the chicken to 3 breast halves (4 seemed like A LOT), doubled the cranberry and pine nuts (which are super cheap in Winco's bulk section), and probably more than doubled the kalamatas (they are a favorite of my husband's). I figured since I'm pregnant and not dieting, we could mess with it a bit and feel okay about it. :-) I also threw the olives in the food processor for a quick spin, rather than just half them...it seemed to spread the goodness a little better. Hey with pre-packaged spinach- it was fairly easy, and really good. Honest.

Toddlerness.

Here is a pic of Sam in front of his 'rainbow' that he made with Maggie's leters on the fridge. He was REALLY pleased with his work. It actually started as a 'word' (letters in a line) then became a 'snake' (letter in a vertical line) and then finally with the addition of the arc- a 'rainbow'.
Maggie had to have her picture taken too...although she had nothing to do with the creation of the rainbow...only it's destruction.
The kids have been trying to give each other 'rides' lately...just like the ones that Daddy gives to them. Here are some pictures of their attempts. You hear a lot of grunting with "it's too big" or "it's too heavy" from the person on the bottom, but they keep trying anyway.

Random Post Day

Let January the 14th forever be known as "Random Post Day" here at Moffatville.

Here's the lastest for this year's RPD:

My sister-in-law, Andrea, reminded us at dinner tonight that the personality profiles match you up with celebs and characters that are supposed to be like you in some way....here are ours.

Leah: George W. Bush, George Washington, Doubting Thomas, Cliff Clavin (Cheers), Dather Vader, Eeyore, and Fred Mertz (I Love Lucy)

Eric: Bill Clinton, KathyLee Gifford, Ronald Regan, Homer Simpson, Elvis, Picasso, and Tim Taylor (Home Improvement)

Now that's entertainment.

Today's Warm-up.

(The following is an actual event.)

Mrs. Moffat took her children to the park today. It had been raining recently and the slides were still wet. Her son, Sam, currently weighs 40 lbs and was wearing nylon pants. He flew down the wet slide faster than a speeding bullet. If he landed 3.5 feet from the bottom of the slide, and the bottom of the slide is 18 inches off the ground, how fast was he going when he exited the slide? How tall is the slide?

Bonus: Was Mrs. Moffat right? Did he fly off faster than a speeding bullet?

At last.

Anyone else out there happy that they won't have to listen to Jen whine anymore on The Race?

15 weeks and counting....

I, that would me Leah, had an OB checkup today and the baby presented a nice and clear heartbeat at 150 bpm. We'll have our ultrasound on Feb. 11th and hopefully find out the sex of the baby. Just thought we'd let y'all know. Have a great end of the week!

Maggie's recitation

Translation: "Proverbs 18:10 The name of the Lord is a strong tower, the righteous run to it and are safe. Proverbs 18:10"

Sam's Recitation

Sambel Oelek

My oh my. The preggy brain deems some things as important that frankly, are rather odd. For example: I was just starting to prep some of tonight's dinner and realized that I might be out of Sambel Oelek and started to freak out. What is Sambel Oelek you ask? Chili Paste with Garlic. Wouldn't want to just add some random amount of garlic to ordinary chili paste...that would be rational and logical both. Freaking out about it would be so much more exciting...apparently.

Well, don't worry I found the Oelek. Dinner will go on.

Thank you Maite!

Maite (and her family!) was so SO sweet to send Sam and Maggie Christmas gifts. They have played with both of them almost non-stop over the last few days. Nice shopping Maite! We miss you!
