Day 76: Smiles

Miles has been a bit of a cranky-puss lately.  He's a horrid teether and is working on breaking through his 2 year old molars....finally.  He's got on in and one on the way right now.  Two are yet to make any kind of showing.  Here's one of the few smiles I've been able to capture this week from him.

Day 75: $2.99

The best $2.99 I've ever (okay, maybe just recently) spent?  A nice new box of crayons for S&M.  They were down to about 20 crayons...and most were shades of yellowish-green and browns.  We've exhausted the back-to-school couponed stash I had, so I hit target and paid full price.  It was well worth it.  They've done more coloring in the past 24 hours than they have on the 3 weeks prior with those fancy new crayons.  Wahoo!

Day 74: Switcheroo!

It was time.  Maybe even past time.  Maggie was due for a room of her own.  Space.  Just somewhere where she can go and be away from her brother when she needs to be.  So we did it.
Rip.
Patch.
Sand.
Texture.
Paint.
Paint.
Tape.
Paint.

Here's a few pics of the work in progress over the weekend.  She's (almost) all moved in now and we're getting things hung up and organized.  "Finished" pics to come in a day or so.

Maggie picked the paint colors herself.  She opted for a two tone approach (I had to limit her at two...she would have had a rainbow if it was totally up to her....).  "Mickey Sailor" on the upper 15 (or so) inches of the room, "One Enchanted Evening" on the rest of it.  In other words:  lt. blue and purple - Disney style.  ;-)

Workin' hard!

Day 73: Japan

The fall after college graduation I was working at a Child Development Center with 3 year olds.  That was the fall of 9/11.  It was interesting to watch as the kids (who didn't seem to know that anything had happened) began building towers and crashing things into them during their playtime in class.  We were quickly educated on how kids deal with stress and grief.

This week our kids have become very aware of Japan.  We've been talking about, and praying for, Japan in our home- as I'm sure many of you are.  Yesterday I spied the kids playing with some blocks.  They were making buildings then yelling "EARTHQUAKE!!" and toppling them over.  Here is a pic of their play imitating a difficult reality this week.

Day 72: Bribery

Eric has some surprise visitors this evening.  Two of his frosh students stopped by with a CAKE for him.  Cake seems to be the gift of choice for Mr. Mo (we received one when we moved into this house from some other students the live in the neighborhood).

Here's a pic of his gift.
It's actually reads "Happy 65th Moffat, Annie & Noelle = Malheur Buddies, 2gether 4ever".  In other words "We hope you had a fun birthday, we don't know how old you are- so we're going with 65 years....also, we're friends and we'd like to be put in the same group for the Malheur trip you are helping to lead in early June.  Thanks."

Rumor has it's a BLUE cherry chip cake under all that pink.  MMmm....
